About

The Mukibanda Yayoi Settlement Site is the village from the Yayoi period located at the foot of Mt. Daisen, the highest peak in the Chugoku region.

The ruins spread across Bandayama Hills, straddling Yonago City and Daisen Town. It is considered the center of the villages in the area that would have existed at the foot of Mt. Daisen at that time.

Approximately one-tenth of the total area has been excavated so far. Findings include about 460 pit dwellings from the late middle Yayoi period (1BC to the first half of the 1AD) to the early Kofun period (around the first half of the 3rd AD), Yosumi Tosshutsugata Funkyubo (a square-shaped burial mound that is peculiar to the San'in region), 510 remains of Hottatebashira-buildings (a type of building that does not use cornerstones but pillars to make it stand), and ring moats.

Many valuable materials have been discovered that made researchers reevaluate the images of the Yayoi period in the San’in area.

The Mukibanda Yayoi Settlement Site in Tottori Prefecture is located at the hill near Mt. Daisen, where you can enjoy the amazing and vast views of the Sea of Japan/East Sea/Sea of China.

This organization has kept the ruins open to the public while preserving them simultaneously.

There is a museum, restored pit dwellings, Takayukashiki Souko (elevated warehouse), graves, and Remains Exhibition Hall. You can observe the excavation site of the pit dwellings.
