16. SANAME-NO-IZUMI SPRING

Saname-no-Izumi Spring has existed near the Hiyoshi Shrine for a long time. 

佐奈咩の泉は、日吉神社の周辺に大昔から存在する泉です。

It was believed to prolong your life if you drink the water from this spring.

延命の霊泉とも呼ばれています。

In the past, the thickness of the ice covering the spring was used to predict the climate and harvest of the year.

かつて泉に張る氷の厚さによって、その年の気候や作物の出来が占われていました。

また鳥取県神社史にこのような文章が記載されています。

“If those who are impure wash his/her mouth with this spring, the water turns dirty”.

「社地内に佐奈咩（サナメ）池あり、汚穢不浄（おわいふじょう）の者此池水を汲み嗽く（くちすすぐ）時は濁水となる。」

不浄の者がこの泉の水で口をすすぐと濁った水となる、という意味です。
